How to Make Black Forest Gateau Cake

To make black forest gateau cake, you will need the following ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
2 eggs
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup milk
1 cup heavy cream, whipped
1 can (16 ounces) pitted dark sweet cherries, drained
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the egg yolk and vanilla extract. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined.

5. To make the frosting, beat together the heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
6. Place one of the cooled cakes on a serving platter. Spread the top with half of the whipped cream, then layer with the cherries. Top with the remaining whipped cream and the second cake layer. Decorate with additional cherries, if desired.
