Escape the House

Game description:

My heart hammered a frantic tattoo against my ribs, echoing the silence left behind by my brother's gleeful laughter. Trapped in the fortress of my own home, sunlight streaming through the window an agonizing taunt to the promised picnic with my friends, I scanned the living room like a detective on the trail of a phantom cat burglar. First things first, assessment. Doors and windows - all firmly locked, thanks to Liam's meticulous attention to detail. The back door, my usual escape route, had succumbed to his inventive barricade of overturned furniture. Panic flickered, but I swatted it away like a pesky fly. I, Eliza, Queen of Improvisation, would not be defeated by a stack of cushions and a mischievous grin. My eyes snagged on the forgotten chessboard, sunlight glinting off the ebony squares. An idea, fragile as a spider's web, began to spin in my mind. I gathered the pawns, lining them up on the windowsill like silent soldiers. With a whispered prayer to the god of leverage, I stacked them, bookended by a heavy tome from Dad's dusty bookshelf. A precarious tower, teetering on the edge of possibility. With a deep breath, I scrambled onto the makeshift ladder, my fingers skimming the cool glass. Each floorboard creaked a traitorous warning, but I ignored them, pushing higher. My knuckles grazed the window frame, and I clambered through, feeling the dizzying rush of fresh air fill my lungs. Down I shinnied, adrenaline coursing through me like a shot of espresso. Triumphant, I landed on the grass, the sun warm on my face. But the victory was bittersweet. Laughter drifted from the corner, and there they were, my friends, faces etched with concern. "You made it!" they cheered, relief blooming like sunflowers on their faces. We embraced, a tangle of limbs and breathless smiles. In that moment, the sting of betrayal from my brother faded, replaced by the warmth of friendship and the sweet taste of freedom. As we set off, the picnic basket bouncing between us, I knew even the most cunning brother couldn't keep a determined sister down. This summer, escape was only the beginning.
