It's the first day of school for Zoe, Ben, and Emily, and they're all excited - but also a little bit nervous. They've been looking forward to this day for weeks, but now that it's here, they're not sure what to expect. They walk into the school building and are immediately greeted by a sea of unfamiliar faces. They follow the signs to their homerooms and take their seats. The teacher introduces herself and then starts calling roll. When she gets to Zoe's name, she pauses. "Zoey Smith?" she asks. "Are you here?" Zoe raises her hand. "Yes," she says. "I'm here." The teacher smiles. "Welcome to our class, Zoey," she says. "We're glad to have you." Zoe smiles back. She's starting to feel a little bit more at ease. After homeroom, Zoe, Ben, and Emily head to their first period class. They're all in the same class, so they walk together. When they get to the classroom, they take their seats and wait for the teacher to arrive. The teacher, Mr. Jones, is a tall, thin man with a friendly face. He smiles at the students and introduces himself. Then he starts talking about the syllabus and what they'll be learning in class. Zoe, Ben, and Emily listen attentively. They're starting to feel more and more excited about the year ahead. After the first class, Zoe, Ben, and Emily head to the cafeteria for lunch. They get in line and order their food. Then they find a table and sit down. They're all talking about their first class when a girl sits down at their table. She introduces herself as Sarah. Zoe, Ben, and Emily tell her about themselves. They quickly become friends. After lunch, Zoe, Ben, and Emily go to their next class. This class is science. They learn about the different types of cells and how they work. The class is really interesting, and Zoe, Ben, and Emily enjoy learning about it. After science, Zoe, Ben, and Emily go to their last class of the day. This class is math. They learn about adding and subtracting fractions. Math is not Zoe's favorite subject, but she does her best. After math, it's time to go home. Zoe, Ben, and Emily say goodbye to their new friends and head out the door. They walk home together, talking about their day. They're all tired, but they're also excited about the year ahead. They know that it's going to be a lot of work, but they're also sure that it's going to be a lot of fun. And they're right. The first year of high school is a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun. Zoe, Ben, and Emily make new friends, learn new things, and have some amazing experiences. It's a year that they'll never forget.
