The Tang dynasty was a time of great cultural and economic prosperity. The Tang capital of Chang'an was one of the largest cities in the world, and it was a center of trade and learning. During the Tang dynasty, China also made significant advances in science and technology. The Tang dynasty was followed by a period of political instability and division. However, China continued to develop culturally and economically, and by the 13th century CE, the country was once again united under the Mongol Yuan dynasty. The Yuan dynasty was a time of great cultural exchange between China and the West. The Mongols ruled over a vast empire that stretched from China to Europe, and this allowed for the free flow of ideas and technologies between different cultures. The Yuan dynasty was followed by the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), which was a time of great economic prosperity and cultural achievement. The Ming dynasty was also a time of great maritime exploration, and Chinese ships sailed to Africa, Europe, and the Americas. The Ming dynasty was followed by the Qing dynasty (1644-1912), which was the last imperial dynasty in China. The Qing dynasty was a time of great political and economic change, and China began to come into contact with the West on a more regular basis. The Qing dynasty was overthrown in 1912, and China entered a period of political instability and turmoil. However, China has since emerged as a major world power, and it is now one of the most populous and economically powerful countries in the world.
