Independence Day Apple Pie This Independence Day, celebrate with a delicious apple pie! This classic American dessert is easy to make and sure to please a crowd. Ingredients 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces 1 cup ice water 6 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup cornstarch 1/4 cup water 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1/2 cup heavy cream, for serving Instructions 1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the ice water and mix until the dough just comes together. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. 2. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). 3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a 12-inch circle. Transfer the dough to a 9-inch pie plate and trim the edges. 4. In a large bowl, combine the apples, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, cornstarch, water, and lemon juice. Toss to coat the apples evenly. Pour the apple filling into the pie crust. 5. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling and crimp to seal. Brush the top of the pie with the heavy cream. 6. Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Let the pie cool for at least 1 hour before serving. Enjoy!
