Richard John "Dick" Grayson was the first sidekick of Batman, going by the name Robin. He later became Nightwing. When Bruce was believed to be dead, Dick took up the mantle of Batman, but later resumed his role as Nightwing after the events of Flashpoint. Another way to say this would be: Dick Grayson was the first Robin, later becoming Nightwing. He briefly took on the mantle of Batman when Bruce was thought to be dead, but returned to being Nightwing after the events of Flashpoint.
